Educational Dynamics Profile

EDUC@ATIONAL DYNAMICS was founded in 1984 and is an accredited Language and Teacher Education Centre situated in Hermoupolis, the capital city of the island of Syros and of the Cyclades Islands in the South Aegean, Greece.

E.D. uses new technologies and modern teaching methods, and runs courses in English, Italian, German and Spanish. It operates throughout the year offering full-time courses to children, teenagers, adults, and professionals leading to international certifications according to CEFR and EQF. It also offers specialised courses to interesting parties in: Banking and Finance, Medicine, Business Skills, Civil Law, Economics, Tourism, Commerce, History of Art, English Literature.

E.D. is a Cambridge Examination Preparation Centre and has a broad network of collaborations for its academic purposes:
a) It collaborates with universities in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the USA
b) It networks with several organisations and academic institutions across Europe in multi-lateral EU Projects
c) It participates in educational pilot EU Projects
d) It is a member of the QLS Network – Quality School Services
e) It is registered with UCAS and undertakes procedures to register students to universities in the UK for undergraduate and/or postgraduate studies.

EU PROJECTS: Since 1997, E.D. has collaborated as subcontractor in LdV, Grundtvig, Socrates 2, EQUAL projects, and has participated as transnational partner in multi-lateral partnerships in LdV, Grundtvig and ERASMUS+ EU pilot projects.

INNOVATION: E.D. has long experience in designing e-learning educational tools, teaching methodologies based on interactive communication, and innovative vocational training methodologies. The E.D. teaching methodology, DynamicLearn, is an innovative teaching approach based on quality teaching practices.

AWARDS: The head of studies, Dr. Eugenia Papaioannou, has been awarded by the Panhellenic Federation of Language Centres, the Municipality of Hermoupolis. and the Prefecture of the Cyclades for her cultural and educational contribution. As transnational partner in EU projects, she has also been awarded the Helsinki Award 2006 for her contribution to the ESO-CSA project along with the entire consortium who created a system that identifies, assesses and acknowledges specialist competences in SMEs, also acquired through non-formal learning.

Teaching Methods

The main principle at EDUC@TIONAL DYNAMICS is the use of the MONOLINGUAL APPROACH; this means that L2 is used throughout the courses regarding all classes of learners from Kindergarten through Proficiency (C2) in all 4 languages. To achieve this objective, a blend of traditional and modern teaching methods is used. These methods are delivered via a wide range of teaching techniques.

We are proud to be a Part of The Diana Award.
The Anti-Bullying Ambassador programme is part of the charity organisation The Diana Award. The Diana Award was founded as a legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales, belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better.
Since 1999, the Diana Award has recognised over 45,000 ordinary young people who have made an extraordinary difference to their community.
The Diana Award does three things:
-Encourages young people to contribute to their communities
-Empowers young people to achieve their full potential
-Engages young people in social action to make a difference in the lives of others through their Anti-bullying, Training and Mentoring Programmes.
Educ@tional Dynamics has participated in the Bullying Prevention month, since November 2017, with the following actions:
-lectures to our classes CS, DS, C1, C2-I, C2-II about what bullying is and how it affects people’s lives at school and at work
-group discussions about actions to be taken to prevent bullying at school and at work
-projects: the students conducted research and read more about this very serious issue
-posters: the students created posters with anti-bullying signs and calls for action
-the posters were posted on the school premises
Since 2018 seventeen of our students have been trained as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors in Athens by a British trainer from Diana Award Organisation.

At Educational Dynamics, we use both formative and summative assessment, the former being the primary way of assessing the students’ learning progress during a course. Through formative progressive assessment we aim at monitoring our students’ learning and providing ongoing feedback that can be used by our teaching personnel to improve their teaching and help students improve their learning.

Examinations for our students
Our students participate in three (3) types of summative examinations (paper based or computer based):
• Mid-year Examinations
• End-of-year Final Examinations
• Mock Examinations

Mid-year Examinations
These examinations take place in February for winter courses and in August for summer courses.

End-of-year Final Examinations
These examinations are both written and oral and take place in the end of the year on the E.D. premises. All students participate in the final written and oral examinations with the exception of the ones who are at B2, C1, C2 levels in all 4 languages.

Mock Examinations
These examinations take place in February and in September depending on which period the E.D. students sit their international examinations (March/May/June/October/December).
International Examinations

Our students sit examinations administered by the following Universities and Accreditation Bodies according to the Common European Framework of Reference, which provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications (CEFR). The certification levels are:
• Basic User (A1, A2)
• Independent User (B1, B2)
• Proficient User (C1, C2)

University of Cambridge: YLE – Starters, YLE – Movers, YLE – Flyers; A2, B1, B2, C1, C2; IELTS Academic (required qualification to be accepted by universities abroad if the English qualification that the applicants hold was obtained more than 2 years before their application).
