Debate Club

Primarily as educators, QLS schools are aware of the overwhelming academic research supporting the many benefits that accrue as a result of having learners engage in debates in the classroom.  However, having learners compete against their counterparts from QLS schools throughout Greece in formal debates was an idea that started in 2016 with the creation of the QLS Debate Guide for Teachers.  Without doubt, the first QLS Online Debate Festival, which was held in 2017, was a unique experience for the learners and an unqualified success for all QLS schools involved.  Outcomes: twelve debates at B1, B2 and C1/C2 level,  twenty-four teams, seventy-two participants, and hundreds of learners involved in researching  and assisting the speakers prepare for or against the motion: “This House Believes Bullies are Victims, too.”

Participants: speakers, support teams, teachers and a panel of judges, among them representatives from the three largest publishers in Greece – Express Publishing, Burlington and MM.

2nd QLS Debate Festival

The second QLS Pan-Hellenic Online Debate Festival was held on 20th and 21st April 2018.

Outcomes:  18 QLS schools in Greece, 36 teams, 108 participants.

Our E.D. team participated in the 2nd QLS Pan-Hellenic Debate Festival held online on 20th April 2018 and were awarded the bronze medal in the C2 category.

Our speakers were Bill, Asimina and rebuttal speaker Zafeiria Danae from C2 – I & C2 – II and our researchers were Angela and Antony from C2 – 2.

A very proud teacher for their performance in this debate: Eugenia Papaioannou

Thanks to technical support by Deppy Doulami (our precious and computer-literate secretary), by Jim Mageiras’ support (a technically literate genius-student and cameraman of the event) and Cosmolearn we managed to participate in this Pan-Hellenic Debate Festival versus the team from Georgia Papas School. Thanks also to our supporters Maria and Panagiotis from C2-I. We enjoyed every minute of it!

On 5th May 2018, in a modest award ceremony, during a break from their lessons, with all C2 students present, they were awarded their certificates of participation, a letter of congratulations by the QLS chair, Mrs. Georgia Papas, and their medals.
